participants get the chance to experience one of the most heroic periods in Latvian history\u2014the time of the Crusades (13th century)\u2014through hands-on discovery.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"445\">Guided by the writings of the <em data-start=\"323\" data-end=\"354\">Chronicle of Henry of Livonia<\/em>, we will follow in the footsteps of one of the bravest medieval Lettish commanders\u2014R\u016bsi\u0146\u0161.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"447\" data-end=\"608\">This is a 7-hour active hike (8\u201310 km) through one of the oldest forests along the Gauja River, culminating at R\u016bsi\u0146\u0161\u2019 stronghold\u2014<strong data-start=\"577\" data-end=\"597\">Kv\u0113pene Hillfort<\/strong> (Sotekle).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"1072\">Along the way, participants will have the opportunity to wear an <strong data-start=\"675\" data-end=\"707\">authentic medieval armor set<\/strong> (chainmail, helmet, spear) and walk part of the trail in this historical gear\u2014experiencing what it felt like to travel and fight in those times. You&#8217;ll also try out medieval weapons, learn techniques, and upon reaching the hillfort, we\u2019ll attempt to uncover the secrets of R\u016bsi\u0146\u0161\u2019 castle\u2014why was it nearly impossible to conquer, and what ultimately happened to it?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1123\"><strong data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1121\">On the hike, we\u2019ll
