Latvian Land - social cooperation for true Latvian insight and experience
LATVIAN land – name that never disappeared from the maps since first mentioned and drawn in the 13th century by early cartographers of medieval federation of Livonia. Though the statehood of Latvian Republic celebrated it’s nominal 100 years’ anniversary in 2018, Latvian Land (Lett land, terra Letthorum) may justly celebrate it’s at least 900 years of history.
Latvian land.lv is designed to accommodate a careful and dedicated approach for unveiling the real values and uniqueness of the centuries of traditional Latvian rural culture nursed and aged in the cradle of the most beautiful, fertile, naturally beautiful and diverse region of Baltics – nowadays known as ethnographic Vidzeme (middle-land) and Latgale.
Latvian Land tradition sees the difference between the passing tourism and guests. Since to serve a cup of water for a traveller is a must, but hospitality is a holy duty.
Latvian Land team consists and is based on the best people in each of the fields covered, including naturists, ornithologists, historians, geologists, folklorists, craftsmen, fishermen, hunters, food – producers and authentic cooks.
There is a personal story behind our initiative. This is a tale of family return to the region of it’s origins after a historical cycle of 300 years. A story of a man, who travelled around the world, to find his dream come true in the place where his blood roots since perhaps 700 years ago.
As the Latvian folk song quotes: ..”old stubs / deep roots/ shoots grow full..”
Andris Geidāns – historian of law (Mag. iur), professional and recognised Baltic and international tour leader with more than 20 years of field experience – is the initiator of the social tourism cooperation in the heartland of Latvian middle land – Raiskums parish in the close vicinity of Cēsis town.
Having led Latvian groups into the Tairona jungle of Columbia, to the ancient kingdom of Queen Sheba in Yemen, Baltistan – perhaps the birthplace of indoeuropean race in the Hindukush mountains of Pakistan, Andris Geidāns has learnt to speak the language that has no obstacles to reach every mindset and nationality.
Our common aim is – to bring in another perspective of Latvia – the one of truly exceptional natural beauty and heritage, reality of the rural and traditional culture and the deep mythological and historical concepts in the most comprehensive and available manner.
